Heart of the Niagara River
For so long Grand Islanders seem to be defined by the High School "Mascot" - The Vikings or by the bridges. Both of these are iconic and their are lots of nice metaphors for those images. But to me and many others, i'm sure, basing our image on the High School Mascot or a man-made bridge doesn't cut it. Neither fully capture what it is to be "from Grand Island".
I'm still looking into the source of this term. The name is used by an animal rescue place ( a dot org ) and a Canadian website.
The Town of Grand Island uses it on a dot us page here "Grand Island Heart of the Niagara"
